Le Labo Fragrances opened in Schlüterstr in May 2016. I don’t know how I could have missed such a beautiful shop. I may even have walked past a few times without noticing it.
Schlüterstraße is not really one of my favourite „Kiez“, but lately some interesting shops have opened there. Le Labo is one and the new Taschen Books Store another one.

Their approach with scent is to fill them with soul. To ensure that it is not just a generic perfume. A Le Labo scent will be carefully mixed just for you, in front of your eyes with almost meditative calmness.
“We believe it is more humane to test cosmetics on New Yorkers than on animals”
The team is very friendly and patient. No questions are seen as stupid and they are filled with passion for sharing their knowledge and love for perfume with you. The gentle way that they touch the bottles containing the fragrances and tell you the story of the various scents is already worth the time spent on a visit.
“We believe fine perfumery must create a shock – the shock of the new, combined with the shock of the intimately familiar.”
The scents, especially the candles as I am not a big perfume lover, are really different. Not as shocking as their manifesto may suggest, but definitely not the usual scented candle.
Opening the door is already a feast for the senses – not only olfactorially, but the haptic of the materials used makes you want to touch everything.
